To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before #1
“What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them… all at once?
Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.”
I read this book while in transit to and from Space Camp (and yes, I am an adult who went to space camp, I definitely recommend it!). I struggled to put this book down. Despite being exhausted from being surrounded by 30 children, this book held my attention.
Laura Jean is one of the most relatable characters I think I have ever read. I was very introverted in high school and generally cared more for my family than friends. It also wasn’t uncommon for me to spend a Friday night rearranging my bedroom.
What captivated me about this book was that it was much more than a romance. This novel was very much about familial love as well. As one with a lot of siblings, I could empathize with her often.
I also appreciated that every character had a flaw of some sort, there were no “perfect” characters in this novel, making it also so much more real.
Overall, I completely recommend this novel, it is the first 5 star novel I’ve granted in several months. I love this book so much I impulse bought the sequel while still on the bus home from Space Camp.
