To LibraryThing or not to LibraryThing, that is the question…

LibraryThingA couple of years ago I went through all of my books, a little over 550 at the time, and created an excel spreadsheet to catalog them. Lately I’ve come across this website called LibraryThing and I’m tempted to try it out. What has me hesitant about trying it out is that I own more books that the free version allows (only 200). While the full version doesn’t cost too much, only $25 for a lifetime, I don’t know want to waste money if I don’t end up liking it.

Has anyone else used this site? And if so, what do you think? Is it worth the price? If you don’t use I, but know someone who does, what do they think of it?

  1. I use the Book Collectorz app to catalogue my books. It’s pretty cool and I can enter as much details as I want. What I like about it is the statistics it provides as well. It’s a little more expensive than LibraryThing at $29.95 for the standard app but you get a free trial. I think you can add up to 100 books with the free trial.

  2. I have used Librarything for years now (lifetime member) and I love it. It probably has the most bells and whistles of any book catalogue service because actual librarians use it and maintain it. There’s so many features I don’t even know what to do with lol. You can even track a map of what bookshops you’ve visited. If you are serious about cataloging your library for the long-term, I highly recommend it. Great community of people on there too!

  3. This sounds really cool! I’ve never used it but I’m sort of curious to check it out now. Although I feel that because I use Goodreads so much (which, to be honest does everything I want it to. Except for rereads, sigh, one day…) I wouldn’t end up keeping up with this as well. Thanks for sharing it though!!

  4. I had never heard of this, sounds cool! Tell me if you like it, as I also own a bit more than 200 books… Haha!
