AS I AM NOW CO-HOSTING EXPLORING MY BOOKS WITH ADDLEPATES AND BOOK NERDS, OUR TOPIC THIS WEEK IS
A book I spent too much on.
To be honest, I try not to spend much on books to begin with. If I am buying a new book I shop around online for the best price or I’ll buy in store if I have a coupon. There is one book I ended up spending a LOT of money on, well a lot for me. This past summer I went to Old Forge, NY while visiting family. While there we went into a few antique shops, which are definitely a weakness of mine. I stumbled across a first, USA, edition of Winnie-the-Pooh. Despite its crumbling state I had to buy it, but not for myself. My older sister is one of the biggest fans of Winnie-the-Pooh, and while she wasn’t pregnant at the time, I figured when she did have a child she could give it to him or her. As I stated before the book was in bad shape, and I was able to bargain with the shop owner a bit and got the book for $24. That may not seem like a lot, but I put more money into the book than what I spent on it. Because I want the book to last a long time, I went out and spent a fortune on book repair supplies, about $70 worth, and then set about repairing the book. Even though my sister is not a reader, I feel that she appreciates the gift, especially now that she can give it to her daughter who is due in June.
