Fushigi Yûgi: The Mysterious Play, Vol 1

BY Yuu Watase

Watase, Yuu; Fushigi Yugi The Mysterious Play
“When best friends Miaka and Yui open the pages of an ancient Chinese book, they are transported into the Universe of the Four Gods, a parallel world to ancient China. Now, to escape schoolwork and family problems, Miaka flees to the parallel world, only to find a lot more danger and romance than she bargained for.”

Fushigi Yugi was probably my gateway manga. It has fantasy, friendship, drama, romance, and danger. What makes it even better is that the artist is amazing. Yuu Watase, the author and artist behind the series, also wrote Imadoki and Absolute Boyfriend (two really cute and adorable manga). This manga will always remain one of my favorites I could endlessly re-read it.

This meme is hosted by Casual Reader. Here are the rules:

  1. Feature a book that was published more than a year ago, the older the better.
  2. It must be a book that you have re-read at least once.
  3. Explain to your readers why this book is worth reading over and over again.
  4. Tag four people in your post to share their favorite throwback the following week.
