Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story
by David Levithan
“It’s Tiny Cooper’s turn in the spotlight in this companion novel to New York Times bestseller Will Grayson, Will Grayson.
Jazz hands at the ready! Tiny Cooper (“the world’s largest person who is also really, really gay”) stole readers’ hearts when he was introduced to the world in the New York Times bestselling book Will Grayson, Will Grayson, co-authored by John Green and David Levithan. Now Tiny finally gets to tell his story—from his fabulous birth and childhood to his quest for true love and his infamous parade of ex-boyfriends—the way he always intended: as a musical! Filled with honesty, humor, and “big, lively, belty” musical numbers, the novel is told through the full script of the musical first introduced in Will Grayson, Will Grayson.” -goodreads
When I read Will Grayson, Will Grayson a few years ago, I was interested in how Tiny’s show would play out. After reading Hold Me Closer:The Tiny Cooper Story I believe I would pay to see this musical acted out. It a cute compilation that gave the reader more insight into who Tiny is. It also helps explain his personality, most importantly his desperation for love.
Since it has been a few years since I read Will Grayson ^2, I was a little lost when starting Tiny’s musical. It may have helped if I’d read a synopsis of the story before starting in on this one because the plot of the novel is directly related to the musical.
Overall I’ve rated this novella/musical at four stars because of the amazing songs and scenes. It did not make it to five because I felt it was rushed and it didn’t keep me hooked. This was definitely a quick read. While 200 pages is not much is seemed like even less because of all the songs for the musical.
